At The Table with Firewalking Edwards
It is now 2/2024 a leap year with a leap year moment. It has been a real difficult time for many of us due to some unseen circumstances, such as COVID 19 and other respiratory issues that has caused many family losses, wages, housing and more including mental health issues. This is a subject that goes without speaking in the African American community along with African refugees. Recognizing the severity of mental health has become an aim for our agency as many go undetected and before you know it, we have lost another community member due to stress and unresolved issues such as: Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar, and more. Our agency prides itself on assisting a community to build resiliency. I speak as one in recovery and now walking along side others as a Peer Support Specialist who has developed a team that is reducing the stigma in the African American/ African community so we can get the help we need without feeling judged. Education, training, and experience is what makes out team so good. I come from a background that is developing a love what is found from within. May this message bring hope, confidence to those who are reading, remember your resiliency is your lived experiences that proves your more victorious than you see. May we continue this journey sharing our story in the lives of those who have a need.
